The Donegal Overcoat is a collaboration with Simon Crompton of Permanent Style, arguably the world's most respected authority in luxury menswear.

The PS Donegal Coat was born out of a need for a versatile coat that could be worn with jeans for a walk, or tailoring to the office. Something that could be thrown on, almost without thought, and yet be rigorously designed that it always flattered the wearer. 

To that end, it is a little longer than most (but can be shortened if required) to add a touch of flair, and that’s balanced by a slightly higher collar that effectively frames the face. That collar stays up when put up, due to curved insert on the neck. And the standard throat latch is reshaped to sit more elegantly when not in use.

The Cloth

The origin is "Donegal Yarns": the last remaining spinner of the product in Donegal, Ireland. The tiny mill has been spinning that distinctive flecked yarn since the 19th century, and the Kilcarra tweed used in this coat deliberately echoes the feeling of the very first incarnations. The mill also dyes, blends, cards and spins all itself - all in a tiny operation between the heather-topped hills and the Irish coast.

The yarn was then woven by Mallalieus of Delph, a small family-run mill in the middle of the Pennines that dates back to 1863. It is also one of the few vertically integrated mills left in England.

For Bladen tailored jackets: If over 185 cm height you might need a long size (UK**L) and if under 175 you might need a short size (UK**S). Sleeves can be shortened (a lot) or lengthened (3-4 cm) and waist can be taken in (up to 8 cm) and let out (up to 6cm) at an alterations tailor. This is why picking size from your chest is so important.
